Presidents Message May 2018

By | News | No Comments

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Thank you for the tremendous attendance at the May Social.  We registered 112 members from the Alumni and 37 members from Newcomers.  The home cooking provided by the ladies at the Polish Hall was delicious and plentiful.  The Fashion Show by Chico’s brought all the latest fashions to us and they were beautifully displayed by our volunteer models.  The models enjoyed having their makeup applied by the Makeup Artists from Shopper’s Drug Mart. All of those attending the Show went home with a Makeup Gift Bag, compliments of Shopper’s Drug Mart.
On a more serious note, your Executive adopted the following BNAC Policies, at their last meeting.  It is similar to policies that have been adopted by other Newcomer and Alumni Clubs in Canada.

BURLINGTON NEWCOMERS ALUMNI CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT

Members of BNAC are expected to conduct themselves with civility at all times.  Personal attacks, threats, intimidation and bullying, including but not limited to verbal, email and other social media attacks will not be tolerated.
Matters of this nature are subject to the BNAC POLICY: Discipline of Members.

BNAC POLICY: Discipline of Members:
The Executive Board of Directors shall have authority to suspend or expel any member from Burlington Newcomers Alumni Club for:

•         carrying out any conduct which may be detrimental to the BNAC, as determined by the Executive Board of Directors, in its sole discretion;

•         for any other reason that the Board, in its sole and absolute discretion, considers to be reasonable, having regard to the purpose of the BNAC.

In the event that the Executive Board of Directors determines that a member should be expelled or suspended from membership in the BNAC, the President, or such other officer as may be designated by the Board, shall provide twenty days notice of suspension or expulsion to the member and shall provide reasons for the proposed suspension or expulsion.

The member may make written submissions to the President, or such other officer as may be designated by the Board, in response to the notice received within such twenty day period.
In the event that no written submissions are received by the President, or such other officer as may be designated by the Executive Board of Directors, may proceed to notify the member that the member is suspended or expelled from membership in the BNAC.
If written submissions are received in accordance with this section, the Executive Board of Directors will consider such submissions in arriving at a final decision and shall notify the member concerning such final decision within a further twenty days from the date of receipt of the submissions.
The Board’s decision shall be final and binding on the member, without any further right of appeal.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
The April Social was so enjoyable for all who attended.  Our Entertainer, Houston MacPherson took us on a nostalgic journey with his singing, jokes and impressions.
The May Fashion Show is our upcoming Social which I know you are looking forward to attending.  We will have eight models participating from the Newcomers and Alumni Clubs.  This will be our first time attending the Polish Community Centre and our accommodation at the venue is modern and pleasant.
As you can see, we will be treated to a wide variety of home-style cooking.  It will be the perfect time of year to see all of the new fashions arriving at Chico’s. We are also able to offer free makeup for our models, courtesy of Shoppers Drug Mart on Headon Road in Burlington.
The Executive is looking forward to welcoming you at the Social on May 2nd.  Lynn Taylor
I hope you enjoy the following poem:

A Prayer in Spring by Robert Frost
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

With the warmer weather we have been experiencing, let’s hope an early spring is on the way.

Above the Executive News line, you will see the new Logo which the Executive voted on at our last meeting. Thank you to Andrea Cooke from Newcomers for the design. The design has numerous significant meanings but far too many to put down here. This Logo also mimics Newcomers’ Logo which gives us continuity. Ann Orr and Ann Reed are working on our April Luncheon, as are Judy Lehto and Chris Patrick for our June Dinner. Thanks again to these ladies for stepping in and filling the void.

PLEASE NOTE: If you sign up for our Website, membership dues can be paid online using PayPal. It is a very simple process. If you are not signed up, please go to burlingtonnewcomersalumni.ca and do so. When you fill in your information, there will be a short wait while you are vetted and a password will be sent to you. This password can be changed to one of your liking.

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Tickets are on sale for this event. Please contact Dianna Porter or myself for tickets. Dianna’s contact information is dijack@sympatico.ca and her telephone number is 905-335-8923. My information is maggiepa46@gmail.com or 905-315-7168.

KNITTED KNOCKERS: Slowly but surely, we are hearing from ladies who would like to knit for this great cause. If you are interested, please let me know. Information is available at www.knittedknockerscanada.com

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: A Nominating Committee is being formed to find a slate of officers for next year. Please see the separate write up.

We will look forward to seeing you at our April Lunch. The two Ann’s are coming up with an interesting concept to get your ideas and thoughts at this lunch.

The President’s Message (September 2016)

By | President's Message | No Comments

Dear Grads:

I am very happy to be serving another term as your President. I look

forward to another great year in BNAC. Please know that any of your

comments and suggestions have been noted and we are doing our

very best to incorporate them in this year’s activities. Our new 1st

Vice Presidents are very aware of price and content when it comes to

organizing dinner and lunches. We also thank Bonnie Charbonneau

for stepping in and organizing our September Dinner and a lunch in

October when we had no one for the 1st VP job.

We are in the midst of a heat wave while I am writing this. The

summer is flying by way too quickly. We are now working on next

year and will be having a meeting at the beginning of August; lots of

emails in the meantime.

On June 20th we had what we call our Crossover Meeting when

members of the Old Executive and the New Executive met at my

home. At that time, we had the last meeting of the year for the

outgoing Executive and the first meeting of the new year with the

incoming Executive.

We welcome Mary Jo Pace, Jill Ward and Helen Gilbert as our new 1st

Vice-Presidents. A welcome goes out to Ann Orr who is taking over

the role of 2nd Vice-President and Rae Collins who will serve as our

Secretary. Christa Patrick has become our new Treasurer and Trudy

Donovan and Joan Erb take on Reservations. Louise Martinus will

take on the role as Member at Large and while Ann Reed has

relinquished her role as Secretary she will stay on as Decoration Co-
ordinator.

On August 23rd, we will be having a Welcome Reception for those

Newcomers moving up to Grads. We thank Ann Reed for offering us

the use of her party room. At the moment we have fourteen

Newcomers moving up. Let’s make these new ladies feel as welcome

as possible.

If anyone who has their Newsletter mailed out to them and does not

receive it, please call Pat Pring at 905-634 9289.

In September, we will be launching our new website so stay tuned for

future information.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing you in

September.

MESSAGE FROM THE SECOND VICE PRESIDENT

My name is Ann Orr and I will be your Second Vice

President this year. I look forward to helping out our

convenors in any way that I can this year. If you have

any ideas for new groups, please let me know and I

will give you assistance in any way that I can.

If your Group has a new Convenor this year, would

you please send me her name and contact

information, as soon as possible. I would also

appreciate it if you could send me a list of your

members. Please note that unless you are a paid up

member of BNAC you may not participate in a BNAC

Group. This is against our by-laws and is not fair to

our members who have joined. Also, your insurance

coverage with BNAC would be compromised.

I look forward to hearing from you and supporting

you in the coming year.

MESSAGE FROM PAT MOY OF BURLINGTON NEWCOMERS ALUMNI

On behalf of all our members and the Executive of the Burlington

Newcomers, I would like to thank all the Convenors of the various

groups that have welcomed the participation of Newcomer members.

Everyone appreciates the time and work from these Convenors to

make the groups so successful.

MESSAGE FROM JUDY LEHTO, MEMBERSHIP CONVENOR

Hello ladies…..I hope you all had a wonderful summer, albeit

very hot indeed.

Now we turn our focus on another year involved with the

Burlington Newcomers Alumni.

I am pleased to announce we have 15 “New” grads this year. I

would personally like to welcome them to the Alumni and

sincerely hope they enjoy all aspects of the club.

There are, however, a number of ladies who have not

renewed their memberships to date. The 2016-2017

Membership Roster will be sent out with the October

Newsletter. Any members who have not paid their dues by

September 30, 2016 will have their names removed from the

Roster and will no longer be members of the Alumni. If they

are partaking in any Alumni activities, they will no longer be

able to attend unless they submit their annual dues for

insurance purposes.

Let the new Alumni year begin….enjoy the journey with

friendship and compassion for all.
